Franco Margari

Franco lives and works in Florence. He began his artistic career in the field of graphic arts in the 1980s, specializing in printmaking techniques; from the early 1990s, he simultaneously devoted himself to painting as well.

Since then, the artist has established a distinguished exhibition career by participating in numerous prestigious group shows and organizing many solo exhibitions. Among the most significant were those in 2000 at Art Point Black Gallery, where he presented for the first time his “Horizons” series, as well as exhibitions in Florence at the Puccini Art Center and at the Medici Villa of Poggio Imperiale. Also noteworthy is the 2004 exhibition at the Diocesan Museum of Florence, featuring 12 works inspired by the Gospel of John, one of which is included in the museum’s contemporary collection, and the exhibition at the Regional Council of Tuscany, where he displayed 20 works of intense evocative abstraction, one of which became part of the Regional Art Gallery collection. Also in 2004, he took part in the International Florence Competition and won the first prize, the Golden Florin, for painting.

In 2006, he became part of the “NE5” movement together with four other Florentine artists, participating in various events, the most important being the exhibition at the Palagio di Parte Guelfa in Florence.

Franco was also a member of the experimental art group KPK (Kantiere post Kontemporaneo), with which he created major installations such as “SEARCHING FOR” at the Loggia del Grano in Florence and “EXPANSION-PROJECTION” at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, also in Florence. Through this same group, he had the opportunity to broaden his artistic experience into the fields of installation art and contemporary performance.

In 2008, Franco was featured in the Italian Art Pavilion in Beijing during the Olympic Games, and one of his works became part of the CONI collection. In 2010, the artist began collaborating with the American Damoka Gallery, which led to two solo exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York.

In 2019, he was awarded the Silver Florin for Graphic Arts at Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Full Bio
