Dutch painter Jan Teunissen (1949) lives in Best near Eindhoven. Initially, he pursued a technical education and graduated as a business engineer. Since 1983, the painter has, primarily as a self-taught artist, mastered the craft of realistic painting.
In his paintings—oil on panel—the artist strives for the most realistic representation possible, mainly still lifes set in a chiaroscuro-like atmosphere. Images in his paintings often depict commonplace objects such as an old vase or plank, and fruit or flowers, the latter usually from the painter’s own garden. His fondness for animals, mostly birds, is also clearly evident in his oeuvre.
The painter focuses primarily on details, light, and reflections. Comments elicited by my paintings, such as: “You could take a bite right off it,” “You can almost smell which fruit it is,” or “Can I feel it? It looks just like a photograph,” confirm to me that “realism” is quite well represented in my paintings, according to the painter. Besides the Netherlands, Jan Teunissen’s paintings have been exhibited and sold in countries such as Belgium, Germany, France, Hong Kong, India, Italy, New Zealand, Oman, Russia, Taiwan, Qatar, and the US.
Jan Teunissen holds the title “Master of Realism”
