MARINA GEIPEL IS AN AUSTRIA-BASED VISUAL ARTIST WHO CREATES INTUITIVE COLLAGES AND PAINTINGS EXPLORING NATURE AND HUMANS THROUGH ABSTRACT SHAPES AND COLORS. OFTEN IN HER WORKS, SHE USES PIECES AND FRAGMENTS OF PAPER OF UNEXPECTED SHAPE TO RECREATE EMOTIONAL IMAGES OF NATURE AND FILL THEM WITH NEW MEANINGS.
“I create my works from a million pieces of paper and recreate brand-new images of nature. The most interesting topic of my work is the study of botanical elements, abstract shapes and colors. Working with paper allows me to implement a new intuitive perception of space.
I use old issues of newspapers, magazines and any other kind of paper for the creation of my collages because this paper allows me to fill my works with new meanings and reminds me that we should appreciate the natural resources. I work with the hope that my art will draw attention to the problems of human interaction with the environment. I am convinced that we should appreciate the beauty of nature and protect its resources.”
THE THEME OF NATURE, PLANTS AND FLORAL MOTIFS IS INTERESTINGLY UNVEILED IN THE PICTURES OF ARTIST MARINA GEIPEL. THE AUTHOR LIVES AND WORKS IN A SMALL VILLAGE IN THE ALPINE MOUNTAINS. IT IS CURIOUS THAT THE WORKS ARE MADE IN THE COLLAGE TECHNIQUE – WITH THE USE OF PAPER AND GLUE ONLY (NO PAINTS). IN HER WORKS, THE ARTIST GIVES THE PAPER A SECOND LIFE BY CHOOSING THE NECESSARY PIECES FROM ADVERTISING BROCHURES, MAGAZINES AND OLD NEWSPAPERS.
“I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE WASTE DISPOSAL PROBLEMS EXISTING IN THE WORLD BECAUSE I LOVE NATURE. MY GOAL IS TO DRAW PEOPLE’S ATTENTION TO THE PROBLEM OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION. I FIND PIECES OF PAPER OF THE NECESSARY COLOR AND TEXTURE, BUILD IMAGES OF NATURE AND FILL MY WORKS WITH LIFE.”
MISSION
VERY OFTEN, MARINA USES ONLY PAPER TO CREATE HER ARTWORKS. THE ARTIST PREFERS PAPER THAT PEOPLE NO LONGER NEED – THE PAPER THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BURNED, ENDED UP IN A LANDFILL, OR, WITH SOME LUCK, AT PAPER RECYCLING PLANTS.
MARINA GAIPEL’S ART IS A REMINDER THAT PEOPLE AND NATURE ARE ONE.
